Secret of Life

After my first decade of life, I started to wonder what was so great about this world. Each decade always led me to more questions about life and what it really meant to be alive. After many, many years of questioning myself I finally stopped and started enjoying my amazing life. Today, it feels like I am sitting in a movie theatre watching all the beauty of nature on display, providing the opportunity for me to discover all the intriguing aspects of living life to the fullest.

This weekend I traveled to Castlemaine for a lovely art exhibit and to connect with friends that I consider family. I was reminded of a valuable lesson. My mobile phone became unplugged from the wall over night, leaving me with no power for the entire day. Initially, I was greeted with a grim face of fear making me think that it was the end of the world if I couldn't connect with my device, review my Instagram account or check emails. Within five minutes my fear was evicted and I started to smile and think of all the wonderful things that could happen without any distractions. As my day unfolded, eating with friends was fun and exciting, walking through several botanical gardens smelling the beautiful flowers, playing with dogs, chatting with strangers, feeding adorable ducks and hens and of course, being totally free from the chains of looking down at the screen of my phone. That's when it dawned on me to cherish the beautiful passing of time.

As I was reminded of one of my favourite songs written by James Taylor, called the Secret of Life, I could hear the voice of Rosemary Clooney singing his beautiful words. My blog today is all about those lyrics. No matter how many times I hear her sing it, tears of happiness always gather in my eyes. Please give the song, Secret of Life, a listen and I hope that it moves you as much as it moves me. An important part of my secret to life is showing kindness to everyone without expecting anything in return.

The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time.

Any fool can do it. There ain't nothing to it.

Nobody knows how we got to the top of the hill.

But, since we are on our way down, we might as well enjoy the ride.

The secret of love is opening up your heart.

It's okay to feel afraid, but don't let that stand in your way.

Cause anyone knows that love is the only road.

And since we are only here for a while, we might as well show some style.

Give us a smile, isn't it a lovely ride.

Sliding down, gliding down, try not to try too hard, it's just a lovely ride.

The thing about time is that time isn't really real.

It's just your point of view.

How does it feel for you?

Einstein said he could never understand it all.

Planets spinning through space, the smile upon your face.

Welcome to the human race, some kind of lovely ride.

I will be sliding down, I will be gliding down.

Try not to try too hard. It's just a lovely ride.

Isn't it a lovely ride. See me sliding down and gliding down.

And since we are only here for a while, we might as well show some style.

Try not to try too hard. It's just a lovely ride.

The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time.

In closing, we have one life to live. Ask yourself, how you would like to be remembered by others. Hope you had a great Easter holiday.

Special thanks to Roz, a great photographer for allowing me to share her beautiful image.
